2004, in commemoration of the 20th anniversary of Brunei-Japan Diplomacy,
kendo was officially introduced to the public with
the support of the Japan Embassy and Malaysia Kendo Association.

The martial art has seen consistent practise in the sultanate ever since
and has been propagated through multiple educational institutes which consists of
public high schools, six form centres, international schools and national universities.

Delegations were also sent in participation of the ASEAN Kendo Tournament with improving performance each time.

Moving forward, the Brunei Kendo Renmei aims to spread the art of Kendo
in the nation by continuing to update our knowledge by
participating in more seminars while holding annual competition to
strengthen our bond with dojo across East Malaysia and the Island of Borneo.
